Chris Singleton NBA Draft Profile

Chris Singleton FSUChris Singleton has been an NBA prospect since HS.  He has not done much at FSU to improve his draft stock.  But the fact remains that he has a lot of NBA skills and when you look at the tape, it’s easy to project him as a PF in the NBA.

Singleton averaged just 13.1 ppg in just under 30 minutes during his junior season at FSU.  He never really broke out as a scorer in the NCAA.  He shot reasonably well from the 3pt line.  The thing I really like about Singleton’s offensive game is that he improved his scoring average each year.  More importantly, he got to the line a lot as a junior.  His play became aggressive, like it was in HS.

Singleton’s biggest NBA ready skills are not on the offensive end.  Singleton projects to be a + NBA defender.  He averaged 2 steals and 1.5 bpg through his entire career.  Singleton has always been able to defend and has the body to transfer those skills directly to the NBA where I see him defending the 4 position.

NBA Ready Skills

  • Interior defense
  • Ball handling
  • Strength
  • NBA ready body
  • Runs the floor well

Weaknesses

  • Lack of offensive game.  Cannot create his own shot.
  • Quickness
  • Short for the 4 position, but not fast enough to play SF in the NBA

NBA Comparison

  • Gerald Wallace

Singleton, like Deandre Liggens, has a game that suits the NBA more than college basketball.  He will give the team who drafts him a plus defender, and an offensive outlet that you do not have to run plays for.  He probably will never develop into the scorer that Gerald Wallace is, but their games are very similar.
