Alec Burks NBA Draft Profile

Alec Burks will be able to slash to the hoop in the NBA.  He is great with the ball in his hands.  He possesses an NBA ready handle and NBA ready height for the 2 position.  He will be affective in his first year.

Burks can create his own shot off the dribble.  He can get to the rim and finish.  He can rebound and defend.

Burks measured out really well at the NBA draft combine.  He is 6’6” with shoes.  He had a 36” vertical.  He ran the 3/4 sprint in 3.14.  Burks is a great athlete.

Burks’ negatives are his outside shooting.  He is a pretty efficient player inside the 3pt line, shooting slightly over 50%.  But outside the line, he hits for under 30% of his 3pt shots.  His stroke looks fundamentally sound, so it’s possible Burks will be able to improve his numbers in the NBA.

NBA Ready Skills:

  • Handle
  • Ability to create his own shot
  • Finishing
  • Defense

Weaknesses:

  • 3pt shooting
  • Turnovers

NBA Comparison:

  • Paul George

Numbers wise, Burks looks a lot like Evan Turner.  He improved dramatically in his second year at Colorado.  He plays a very similar game.  He has very similar stats.  But where Burks seperates from Turner is his athleticism.  Turner looked like a very fast and athletic player in college, but his measurements showed otherwise.  Burks, as well, looks like a quick and athletic player, and unlike Turner, his measurements back that up.

I think Burks will have a first year that resembles Paul George.  Their games are nearly identical.  They both possess NBA ready skills and measurements.  Like George, Burks will take some time to adjust, but he should not have the same problems Turner did adjusting to the NBA game.  Burks should be able to continue to get his own shot at the NBA level.
